Ethiopia earns less than planned export of dairy products over the past six months.

Ethiopia had planned to export 451,000 liters of milk in the last six months of 2014, but the performance was lower than planned, according to the Meat and Dairy Industry Development Institute. Debele Lema, director of communication at the institute, told Bisrat Radio that the performance was lower than planned.

He also mentioned that there are serious problems in the dairy industry related to the marketing system, adding that the lack of legislation to regulate milk marketing has negatively impacted it.

The lack of improvement in dairy farming has not contributed to the expected growth of the sector. Evidence shows that Ethiopia’s annual milk production does not exceed 4 billion liters.
