Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, was founded in 1782. The English word Bangkok comes from the Tahi language “Bang Makok” which means “Place of the Olive Tree”.

This name was given to the city when it was the smallest trading village and currently the capital is home to more than 10 million citizens. Surrounded by 5 countries, Bangkok is said to be visited by more than 1 million citizens every day for work and various purposes.

Bangkok is called “Krung Thep” or “City of Angels” by the locals. The city with the longest official name in the world is Bangkok, and its name has a total of 168 English letters.

The official name of Bangkok is “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit” which in Amharic means “City of Angels, Great City of the Living, Abode of Nine Magnificent Gems, Seat of the King, The city of the royal palace, the home of the flesh-clad gods…” is like saying.

Bangkok is one of the hottest cities in the world and experiences extreme heat especially from March to June. It is said that by the year 2023, the capital, which is visited by more than 22 million people a year, will earn more than 4.5 billion baht (money) from tourism alone.

The city has many man-made and natural monuments; It has Buddhist shrines, parks, museums and many recreational areas. One of Bangkok’s top tourist destinations is the Grand Palace of Thailand.

The palace is the residence of the kings who ruled Thailand from 1782 to 1932 and is a major Buddhist religious center. Among the many relics in the palace is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, also known as Wat Phra Kaew.

Among the many parks in Bangkok, Dusit Zoo is second to none in terms of its size and variety of animals.

The park contains more than 1,600 species of animals collected from all over the world, including lions, buffaloes, elephants, hippos, zebras, bears, giraffes and lions. The floating market on the Chao Phraya river also attracts many people’s attention.
