Addis Ababa Police announced that the celebration of Meskel Square in Addis Ababa was attended by President Sahlework Zewde, Deputy Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration, His Excellency Adanech Abebe, religious leaders, ambassadors of various countries and many followers of the faith.

More than 3 million birr collected from illegal traders engaged in coffee trade in Gedo Zone
According to Tariku Abraham, head of the Gedo Zone Coffee, Tea and Spices Office, it is working to increase the productivity of farmers by using improved methods and replacing old coffee with new varieties. Coffee covers more than 53 percent of the area.
He said 24,607 tons of quality coffee was exported to the central market in 2013 EC, which is 5,000 tons more than the previous year. He said 70,000 hectares of land is covered with coffee and an average of 10.9 quintals is produced per hectare.
He said 907 million USD is earned from coffee in Ethiopia, adding that Gedo Zone has an 11 percent share.
He said illegal traders have proliferated in the zone and fined more than 3 million birr to the government last year.
He said coffee-bearing diseases have been reported in the zone, adding that efforts are underway to develop and distribute new varieties that are resistant to the disease.
