Daily food aid is being provided to people displaced from their homes in Amhara State
Addis Ababa: April 26, 2014 (FBC) The Amhara State Disaster Prevention and Food Security Program Coordination Commission announced that food aid is being provided to those displaced from various regions.
It is said that food aid is being provided to people in different parts of the region who have been displaced from their homes due to the attacks in various regions.
The commission said the federal and state governments should focus on repatriating IDPs.
Amhara Regional Disaster Prevention and Food Security Program Coordination Commissioner Zelalem Lijalem said; Half a million people have been displaced by the violence in various parts of the country.
He also said that more than 200,000 people have been displaced by the recent attacks in Ataye, Shewarobit and its environs in North Shoa Zone of Amhara State.
“People have been killed, property has been destroyed, and there has been a serious psychological, social and economic crisis for the displaced,” the commission said.
He said the attacks on Amhara natives are on the rise. According to ENA, the situation has put a strain on the region’s economy.
He said up to 60,000 quintals of grain is being provided to IDPs every month in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
He also said that efforts are being made to mobilize the community and investors to get daily food.
