We are at a historic moment where we are working together more than ever for the success of our dam and the sovereignty of our country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, conveyed a message of congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the construction of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
In his message, he said the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is one of the first infrastructure projects to lay the foundation for the countrys rapid economic development.
He said the main reason for the Ethiopian Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project is its historical significance and economic significance.
The fact that we have laid the foundation stone of our great Nile River for power generation ten years ago with our own ideas, energy and money, and now we are moving towards the final stages of the construction process, will increase its historical significance.
In addition, the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project will significantly improve the country’s electricity supply. He said the establishment of strong ties between the lower riparian countries and the region in terms of energy development would be of great economic significance.
During the construction years, the project has been completed by identifying gaps in the implementation of the project and taking corrective measures.
Similarly, during these years, there have been widespread expressions of interest and concern about the dam; Demeke Mekonnen said a lot of efforts have been made to create transparency and reach consensus through principle-based negotiations on the issues raised.
From the day the foundation stone of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam was laid, the history of financial and moral support of our people at home and abroad will never be forgotten.
He also said that the people who have stood up for the sovereignty of the country by raising their voices at home and around the world by bringing justice and truth to the demands of the lower riparian countries will be resolved through negotiations.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who called on the people to strengthen their support for the success of the rest of the project, said they are all at a historic juncture to work together for the success of the dam and the sovereignty of our country.
Our country is facing challenges in two directions. On the one hand, it is a vicious act that is undermining the sovereignty of our country by committing serious attacks on its sovereignty, including the massacre of its citizens, the displacement of its citizens, the lack of stability in peace, and the unrest.
On the other hand, foreign powers have been using various tactics to distort Ethiopia’s path of truth and justice, and are increasingly using internal violence as a major battlefield.
He said the government will continue to work hard to bring to justice those responsible for the deaths, massacres and instability in the country.
Our country, Ethiopia, will continue to enjoy the equitable benefits of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project and will continue to work as usual to resolve the needs of the lower riparian countries peacefully and through negotiations.
It is unacceptable for our country to use its natural resources for the benefit of the people on its own, its own sovereignty, its own resources, to create undue pressure on the interests of others and to perpetuate the system of injustice that has existed for centuries.
Therefore, on behalf of the National Public Participation Coordination Council and myself, I would like to express my deepest respect and gratitude to all of you at home and abroad who have supported you from the beginning with your money, time, energy, ideas and votes. To achieve our goal by withstanding all pressures; They conveyed the message that our inner unity is the source of all our victories and should be strengthened.
