The ongoing fruit and vegetable development in the region is helping to alleviate poverty
Prosperity of the ongoing fruit and vegetable development in various parts of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Region (SNNPR) will help alleviate poverty in a short period of time, said Tilahun Kebede, Head of the Prosperity Party’s Regional Office.
Officials of the Prosperity Party of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People’s Region (SNNPR) are visiting the agricultural development projects being carried out by leading farmers in various zones.
Prosperity party officials who were trained at Butajira Center are currently visiting fruit and vegetable development in Meskan Woreda of Gurage Zone.
At the same time, farmers in the zone are cultivating avocados and exporting them to foreign markets.
At the same time, Tilahun Kebede, Head of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Region (SNNPR) Office of the Prosperity Party, said promising results are being registered in the region.
He said if the fruit and vegetable development is properly managed, it will help in our efforts to get out of poverty in the short term.
In particular, he said the ongoing agricultural activities in the field of model farmers will not only generate foreign exchange but also create jobs for many youths.
He said the necessary support should be strengthened to ensure the ongoing fruit and vegetable development at all levels.
The leaders who participated in the visit urged them to draw on the experience of past farmers and expand it in their areas.
He said efforts should be made to expand the experience of vegetable and fruit development started by model farmers to all sections of the society.
Prosperity party officials who are currently undergoing training at four centers in Butajira, Hossaina, Arbaminch and Wolayita Sodo in the state are observing the experience of model farming activities being carried out by model farmers, ENA reported.
