More than 17 million quintals of produce is expected in Oromia from the first round of summer irrigation wheat development


Oromia State plans to harvest more than 17 million quintals of produce in the first round of summer irrigation wheat development in 2014, according to the state’s agriculture bureau.

A delegation comprising senior officials of the Regional Agriculture Bureau and the Ministry of Agriculture visited the Kuta Getem Irrigation Wheat Field being developed by farmers in Akaki Woreda, Special Zone, Finfine.

More than 350,000 hectares of land has been cultivated in the first round of the summer irrigation development, up to 90 quintals per hectare, according to the regional agriculture bureau.

It is also planned to harvest up to 30 million quintals of produce by cultivating 607,000 hectares of land in two rounds of summer irrigation wheat development in the state.

Workshop on Higher Education Development Projects Opens


A two-day workshop on higher education development project management has opened.

University presidents, vice-presidents and heads of development plans and projects at universities are participating in the workshop.

The project was launched by the FDRE Minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Fitsum Assefa.

He said the main purpose of the Higher Education Development Projects Management Guide is to convert resources and further investment into growth and development.

He also said that the forum will help improve the management of poor public investment in the sector.
