Number of mobile banking users increase from 3.5 million to 40 million.

The 18th Innovation Africa Digital Summit is being hosted by Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. Speaking on the status of digital payments in Ethiopia, National Bank of Ethiopia Payment Monitoring and Development Head, Solomon Damtew, said the number of mobile banking subscribers has increased from 3.5 million to 40 million since the outbreak.

He said mobile banking transactions increased from 9 billion birr to 326 billion birr. It is said that the increase in the number of people who are exposed to the technology.

The ability to rely on digital payments has contributed to the increase in the number of people who are exposed to the virus.

Tesfaye Alamneh, Head of Communication at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, told Bisrat Radio that hard work needs to be done to increase the demand for digital payment and to provide efficient service to citizens.

More than 30 African countries are participating in the 18th Innovation Africa Digital Conference organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation Technology and Extension.
