Three sub-cities in Addis Ababa are at high risk of flooding.
Addis Ketema, Kolfe and Akaki sub-cities are among the 11 sub-cities in Addis Ababa that are most vulnerable to floods.
Public Relations Head of the Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission, Gullat Getaneh, told ENA that flood risk exposure has been studied in 11 sub-cities of Addis Ababa and 363 areas have been identified.
The study identified the most vulnerable areas in Addis Ketema, Kolfe and Akaki sub-cities.
Of these three hundred and sixty-three places, 226 are said to be at high risk of flooding.
According to the commission, 120 areas are at risk of flooding, while 17 areas are at low risk of flooding.
The main reasons for the floods are the topography of the city, the unplanned nature of the city, the dumping of sewers in various places and the wells being dug for the development of the city.
On the other hand, the study found that government sector offices have not been able to work properly and that they have not been able to reclaim excavated areas.
Gullat Getaneh, who urged the public to take the necessary precautionary measures, said the commission has been working to prevent floods following the winter.
