Awash Bank announced an annual profit of 5.58 billion birr in the current budget year.

Awash Bank Chief Executive Officer, Tsehai Shiferaw, said the company has registered 5.5 billion profits in overcoming the cholera epidemic and other challenges.

In a press statement on the bank’s annual performance, the chief executive said the paid up capital of the bank has reached 8.2 billion birr.

This amount is significantly higher than the amount of capital paid by the National Bank of Ethiopia to all existing banks in five years.

The bank has opened more than 100 new branches this year, generating more than two million new deposits and increasing its total deposit to over 5 million.

He said most of the branches are outside Addis Ababa, adding that it is important to expand bank access and inclusion.

The total deposit of the bank has reached 107.7 billion birr, he said.

Awash Bank also has 566 branches in various parts of Ethiopia.
