Heavy rain mixed with snow in Addis Ababa damaged lives and property

Addis Ababa: August 20, 2013 Addis Ababa City Administration Deputy Mayor, Adanech Abebe has expressed her sorrow over the loss of life and property caused by the floods in the capital.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and property caused by floods in various parts of our city this afternoon due to the heavy snowfall in our capital Addis Ababa,” he said.

Roads are still closed due to the catastrophic floods in Asco, Addis Ababa, German Square and the Golf Club, and our emergency and fire crews are on the scene trying to prevent further human casualties.

“We are transporting the victims to medical facilities and providing first aid,” he said.

The city administration has already taken precautionary measures in connection with the winter solstice, but today’s disaster indicates that more work needs to be done.

According to Adanech, on her social media page, there is still a lot of rain in the coming days and I urge residents to take the necessary precautions.
