It is known that the government’s law enforcement campaign in the Tigray region has disrupted business activities in the region.

The chairman of the committee, Mane Worede, on his part said business has started in Mekele town, adding that the consumers are trading their products at affordable prices.

Currently, white teff is sold at Birr 45 per kilo, Red Teff 38 Birr, Wedding 38 Birr, Wheat 28 Birr, Onion 15 Birr, Tomatoes 10 Birr and Potatoes 20 Birr, the committee members said.

However, due to law enforcement, some food items, such as macaroni, rice, lentils, peas and coffee, have been hit by inflation, he said.

He also said that petrol is being sold illegally up to 50 birr per liter in the city, adding that this needs to be addressed.

Consumers said that despite the high inflation rate in the city, there are activities that are disrupting the business system and one of the illegal activities is the sale of goods on the black market, which should be given special attention.
