An international conference on the use of water resources in Africa is underway in Addis Ababa.

An international conference on the use of African water resources is being held in Addis Ababa, organized by the African Center for Water Management and Excellence in collaboration with the University of Florida.

The Chief of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Region (SNNPR), Ristu Yirdaw, has officially launched the 2014 Regional Summer Youth Voluntary Service by demolishing houses for the elderly in Gidem Zone, Ember.

He said the state is allocating 14 million birr for the demolition of houses for the elderly.

He said 2,300 old houses will be renovated and constructed this budget year. He called on young people to strengthen their volunteerism based on their fathers’ past history.

In the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People’s Region (SNNPR), more than 1.8 million youths are expected to participate in 13 sectors this year and serve more than 5.8 million members of the public.
