More than 3,500 Ethiopians return from Sudan

More than 3,500 Ethiopians have entered Ethiopia from Sudan, according to government officials and immigration offices in the Metema Yohannes area, Nahu TV reported.

Metema City Administration Communication Expert, Sitotaw Chane, said the Ethiopians have returned due to the economic crisis in Sudan.

He said Ethiopians in Sudan (Gaddafi region) were engaged in farming and day labor.

More than 80% returned to Ethiopia from Khartoum.

He said the Ethiopians have returned from the recent tensions along the Ethio-Sudan border and the economic crisis in Sudan.

The number of citizens returning to Ethiopia from Sudan is likely to increase, he said.

Tensions have been high in the West Gondar region since the end of October, according to the TV station.
