The Standing Committee on Public Expenditure Management and Control of the House of Peoples’ Representatives has called on the Ethiopian Heritage Authority to rectify the audit findings.

Standing Committee Chair Christian Tadele said the authority should submit an audit correction report to the committee by January 24, 2022.

He also said that it is not appropriate for the Ministry of Finance to be tolerated in the event of such a financial crisis.

Members of the Standing Committee noted that the Authority has not been able to rectify the many audit findings from 2008 to 2021 and take corrective action.

Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Heritage Protection Authority, Abebaw Ayalew, said there were complex problems at the institution, including in the accounting and disposal sectors.

He said the budget allocated for the Axum monument repair will be partially paid after the national budget is paid halfway through the incident.

Efforts are underway to draft a revised proclamation to get the institution out of its current predicament and submit it to the Council of Ministers for approval, he said.

According to information received from the House of Peoples’ Representatives, the Minister of Tourism, Nassie Chale, on his part said the government will make every effort to solve the problems of the Authority.
