Creating an account in Telebirr is a simple process. You have two options: The first one is using Telebirr mobile application which you can download from Google play store or downloadable from the link we have put at the end of this article. The second option is to use USSD (Unstructured supplementary service data) using *147# then dial.
In simple words Telebirr converts cash money with equivalent electronic money. Once you deposit your cash and convert it to electronic money you will be able to transfer it to any one you may want, pay your bills from your electronic money, you can buy goods from supermarkets or any other preferred usage.
To deposit your cash you can visit any of Telebirr agents near to you or visit any of Ethiotelecom shops. At the service desk you will give your cash yo the agent or ethio sales representative. After the agent or the representative received your money in cash, it will deposit equivalent electronic money in your Telebirr account.
Let’s say you have 100 birr on your Telebirr account, then if you take 800 birr in cash to the agent and give it. The agent will transfer equivalent electronic money to your Telebirr account which is identified by MSISDN (your service number). Then your Telebirr account balance will be equal to 900 birr. So now you can spend this electronic money for any purpose you may wish.
After the agent puts the electronic money on your Telebirr account you will receive a notification message from Telebirr to confirm your deposit is made successfully.
Thr other option to deposit your cash is using a linked bank account. You can directly transfer from your bank account which is in cash to telebirr account which is in electronic form.
