Dire Dawa University is preparing to conduct weekly fitness activities in all nine urban kebeles.
The University of Dire Dawa is conducting a monthly fitness program involving the university community.
He also held the second round of the program today at the main entrance of the university. University officials, teachers and students participated in the exercise.
Dr. Solomon Zerihun, Vice President of Research and Community Service at Dire Dawa University, said the exercise is a starting point for sports activities at the national level. He said the exercise is being carried out on a regular basis every month in order to create awareness among the university community and the residents of the city by facilitating the training of 10 university members.
The Vice President of Research and Community Service said the exercise will be carried out weekly in all nine kebeles of the university. He said they will work with the Dire Dawa administration, the nine kebeles, youth and various organizations to achieve the expected results. He also conveyed the message that the community should engage in various activities to protect the health of the community.
The head of the university’s sports science department and exercise coordinator, Mandefro Dagnew, said all members of the university can maintain their health if they exercise at any cost without any differences.
He said the exercise, which is being coordinated by the university, is one of the goals of the university, adding that it will help in the effort to create a healthy community. He further said that they have completed a study to start a physical activity involving the city community beyond the university community.
