It was said that mental health should be given attention
During the inaugural National Dialogue on Mental Health at the Ministry of Health’s Directorate of Disease Prevention and Control Directorate, State Minister of Health, Dr. Dereje Duguma said mental health is a major problem at the national level but has not been adequately addressed.
Dr. Dereje Duguma said mental health issues are included in the five-year Health Sector Transformation Plan.
At the government level, mental health is becoming a major problem in the community, he said.
The forum was attended by representatives of mental health services from all regional health bureaus, hospital professionals, mental health professionals and humanitarian organizations.
According to Hiwot Solomon, Director of the Directorate of Disease Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Health needs to work with stakeholders to address the problem.
At the same time, work is underway to increase the number of mental health service facilities and expand their access, said Hiwot Solomon.
