Today the Ethiopian arts world lost one of its warmest, most beloved figures: Netsanet Workneh, the actor, comedian, and television presenter whose work brought laughter and connection to families across the country. He passed away earlier today after a long illness, a loss that’s being deeply felt by colleagues, fans, and the entertainment community at large.
Netsanet was a name many households knew well. Over more than twenty years, he carved out a remarkable career in film, television, and theatre. His on-screen roles in films like City Boys, FBI, Yanchaw Leba 2, Mr. X, and Chombe were not just entertaining — they helped define a generation of Ethiopian cinema with their humor, heart, and vibrant characters.
On television, his charm and easy presence made him a natural host. Audiences loved him as the face of a popular family game show on EBS TV, where his playful energy and genuine warmth helped bring people together week after week.

He played key parts in productions such as Freshman, where his talents and collaborative spirit helped nurture younger performers.
