Ethiopia is working on a long-term plan to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 – Prime Minister Abiy
Addis Ababa, November 2022: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that Ethiopia is working to implement a long-term plan in line with the Paris Agreement to achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The prime minister said this at the international climate change conference being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
At this time, Ethiopia has planted 25 billion saplings in the last four years. Referring to the fact that one citizen planted 250 saplings.
In his speech, the prime minister pointed out that East Africa is frequently affected by drought and floods due to climate change, and noted that Ethiopia is also under threat.
Prime Minister Abiy said that we have been able to turn bad events and challenges into good opportunities.
They also mentioned that Ethiopia is working to provide sustainable, accessible and cheap renewable energy to its citizens and the region.
In his speech, the Prime Minister mentioned that Ethiopia has shown rapid change through afforestation, reforestation and prevention of climate change through the green footprint program to ensure food security and transition to green development.
He also explained that the 10-year growth and development plan is based on building a green economy that is resilient to climate change.
