Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen hosted a dinner for African Foreign Ministers.

The 40th Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, to be held before the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, kicked off yesterday. They had a dinner party that evening.

Speaking at the ceremony, Demeke said Ethiopia has been able to overcome the pressure from the international community and some countries with the help of Africans. Mention that the conference is a demonstration of this: In his speech, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Mahamat Saleh Annadif, expressed his support for Ethiopia.

He recalled that Ethiopians had voted for their government, noting that the elected government had embraced the opposition more than ever before.

He said despite the challenges, Ethiopia is striving to ensure the social and economic development of its people. According to the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson’s Office, the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is an example of this.

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed has arrived in Borena to inspect the drought situation in Borena Zone of Oromia State.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by other senior government officials, including Oromia Regional State President Shimeles Abdissa.

It is expected that the Prime Minister will visit various areas affected by the drought during his stay in Borena and provide directions for a speedy solution to the problem.
