The House of Federation has decided to make it the 11th region in southwestern Ethiopia.
The House of Peoples’ Representatives has examined and approved the results of the first emergency session of the 6th term of the parliament.
The House approved the referendum after a report by National Electoral Board Chairperson Birtukan Mideksa and a recommendation by the Standing Committee on Identity, Boundaries and Peacebuilding.
After deliberating on the resolution, the council unanimously approved the formation of South West Ethiopia as the 11th region.
Five zones and one woreda in southwestern Ethiopia held a referendum on September 20, 2014.
It is to be recalled that the National Electoral Board informed the House of Federation in a letter of the outcome of the referendum.
According to ENA, the House of Federation has decided to form an 11th state based on the results of the referendum held in southwestern Ethiopia.
