Dr. Meskerem Zewde, Head of the Housing Development and Administration Bureau of the City Administration, said more than 650,000 residents are registered in Addis Ababa and are waiting for housing. He said it would take more than 30 years for the administration to respond to the request.
Therefore, various options are being implemented to solve the problem, she said. He said the problem can be solved by working with foreign development companies.
He said an agreement has been reached with the United Arab Emirates and South African companies. He said the companies will solve the financial and technological problems in the sector.
The head of the bureau made the remarks while issuing a press statement denying rumors following the recent agreement with South Africa’s Propart 2000.
He said the company has more than 31 years of experience in South Africa.
The Ministry of Agriculture said 374 million quintals of produce will be harvested in the 2013 and 2014 cropping seasons.
Isaias Lema, Director of Crop Development at the Ministry of Agriculture, told Ethio FM that 12.7 million hectares of land was used for development in the 2013 and 2014 cropping seasons.
