We have started to deal with international pressures in Teleber: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed
***************************************
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Teleber said we have started to withstand international pressure.
“As a country, when we started mobile money transfer services, we did not give licenses to international organizations, but we did so in the first place,” said Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
He said the company has been able to increase its ability to compete with foreign companies.
He said that when we started this service internationally, the pressure was heavy but it was determined by the national interest. The Prime Minister urged Ethio Telecom to carry out its duties effectively and to strengthen its capacity.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recalled that the mobile money transfer service was offered to the government 10 years ago but failed at the time.
Ethio Telecom Chief Executive Officer, Frehiwot Tamiru, on her part said the company has provided a different telecom service than the service it has been providing to its customers in the past 127 years.
Teleber is designed to benefit rural and low-income citizens in the financial sector and is a method of sending, receiving, paying and trading money, she said.
Teleber said the money will reduce the cost of printing and make the money accessible to the wider community.
It is expected that 53 million people will use Teleber and the service will be available in five languages, she said.
