Addis Ababa: April 26, 2014 (FBC) The members of the Security Council reaffirmed their commitment to Ethiopia’s sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity and national unity.
Members of the United Nations Security Council have issued a statement on the humanitarian situation in Ethiopia, particularly in the Tigray region.
In a statement, he called on the government to strengthen its support for the humanitarian situation in Tigray State.
He said despite the government’s continued support, the humanitarian crisis in the region remains a concern.
The council also called on international aid agencies to strengthen their support in accordance with the principles of emergency humanitarian assistance.
He noted that the current security situation in the Tigray region is an obstacle to providing adequate humanitarian assistance, and called for the region to be restored.
The members expressed concern over alleged human rights abuses in the region, particularly sexual harassment, and called for an investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He said the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, has welcomed the ongoing human rights violations in the region.
In recognition of this, the Council recognizes the contribution of the African Union Commission on Human Rights and calls for the process to be in line with international law.
The African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) also expressed support for the region’s efforts to bring peace.
