The opening of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Alliance Africa Office in Ethiopia demonstrates the country’s active participation in regional and global events, said Finance Minister Ahmed Shide.

The United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Solutions Alliance (SDSA) announced today the opening of its Africa Office at Addis Ababa University.

The event was attended by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide, Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Timothy (PhD), Minister of Planning and Development Fitsum Assefa (PhD), UN Sustainable Development Solutions Alliance President Professor Jeffrey Sachs and other guests.

Finance Minister Ahmed Shide said that Ethiopia has implemented comprehensive reforms in the past years of change.

He stated that Ethiopia’s 10-year development plan has made the destination prosperous and sustainable.

He mentioned that inclusive reforms have been carried out in the social, economic and political sectors; he stated that Ethiopia has recorded better performance in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

He noted that it is a country with a large population and economy in East Africa, and that it has played a significant role in the establishment and contribution of regional and international institutions.

The Minister stated that the macroeconomic reform is based on a framework that allows for rapid and sustainable growth; he said that various policy measures have been taken to achieve this.

He also stated that attention has been paid to modernizing internal revenue collection, increasing investment, and improving public development organizations.

The Minister stated that information technology, agriculture, tourism and mining are the government’s focus areas; he said that the government’s digital services and digital finance sectors have also recorded progressive changes.

The government also said it has encouraged private sector participation by expanding industrial parks and providing complete infrastructure, EZA reported.
