The regional government has spent more than 1.5 billion birr in response to the drought in the Somali region – Chief Mustafa Mohamed.

The state government has spent more than 1.5 billion birr in response to the drought in the state, according to Chief of Staff, Mustafa Mohamed.

The Somali Regional State Council has started its 6th, 1st year and 2nd regular sessions today.

In his report, the head of state spoke about the drought situation in the region and outlined the regional government’s response to the drought.

He said the regional government has spent more than 1.5 billion birr to save the lives of people affected by the drought.

He said the drought in the Somali region has been responded to in a participatory manner. He said the region has come to see the drought situation and the efforts of the regional government.

He said 305 million birr has been obtained from various regions of the country, the private sector, local donors and various sections of the society and is part of the response to the drought.

On the other hand, the World Bank received $ 64.4 million over the weekend, of which $ 38 million was released and the fight against the drought has contributed significantly, he said.

He said the proceeds will be used to address the drought in the coming months and to address the recurring drought.

Thanks to all the regions, city administrations, organizations, and individuals who supported President Mustafa during this difficult time.

According to Mustafa, the state government is providing water to 1,873 people in 87 woredas every day, benefiting more than 2.4 million people affected by the drought.

On the other hand, he said the regional government has been able to bring significant changes in all areas of infrastructure such as education, health, agriculture, roads, etc.

He also said that asphalt and cobblestone roads are being constructed in the state, especially in Jijiga and Gode towns.
