In a 40-minute rescue operation in Addis Ababa, one person was saved from a train accident.
The Addis Ababa Light Rail Service Enterprise (ERA) announced that it was able to rescue the victim of a train accident that took 40 minutes to save the life of the person who was involved in a train accident at the Riche Railway Station or Meskerem Mazoria.
The accident took place on November 12, 2014 at around 2:50 pm on a train traveling from Kaliti to Piazza, Samrawit Abubakar, head of the organization’s Safety and Security Service, told Bisrat Radio. The man was intoxicated while under the influence of alcohol.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by security forces and Addis Ababa fire and emergency management staff.
“Train collisions are different from other types of traffic accidents,” she told Bisrat Radio.

According to Dr. Meseret Zelalem, Director of the Maternal and Child Health Directorate at the Ministry of Health, 36,000 children die every year in Ethiopia before the age of five.
He said 123 out of 1,000 live births in 2005 have been reduced to 59 in 2019 due to efforts to prevent infant mortality.
Out of 1,000 live births, the highest mortality rate is 101 in the Somali region and 26 in Addis Ababa.
