Over 4,300 kg of butter and 65 quintals of pepper mixed with foreign substances seized
Abera Denekew, Director of Communication at the Ethiopian Food and Drug Administration (EDA), said the Authority’s Communication Director, Abera Denekew, said seven institutions in Addis Ababa alone have received over 4,300 kg of food additives. He said he had seized some butter and 65 quintals of pepper.
According to Bisrat Radio, during a surprise inspection of a grocery store, the oil was found in nine rusty barrels, the source of which was unknown, and where the product was stored.
He also said that 16.6 tons of various food items have been prevented from entering the country due to non-compliance.
The Authority also said that it has taken legal action against pepper, butter, oil, salt, honey, baby food and dairy products in various exhibitions and markets in various cities in Ethiopia.
In terms of pharmaceutical products, about 2.6 billion quality drugs have been imported and imported.
Regarding the quality of medical equipment, 2.6 billion birr worth of medical equipment and other health inputs have been banned from entering the country due to non-compliance, the Authority said in a statement.
