More than 27,900 quintals of food has been distributed to drought affected people in Borena Zone of Oromia State.

Addis Ababa: October 17, 2021 (addisgo.com) More than 27,900 quintals of food has been delivered to the victims of the Borena Zone of Oromia State, according to the Disaster Risk Management Commission.

The commission’s public relations head, Debebe Zewde, told ENA that residents of the area have been affected by the drought.

Following this, the Disaster Risk Management Commission has provided emergency food aid to the needy.

He said Borena Zone is one of the worst affected areas in the country.

He said more than 27,900 quintals of food has been delivered to the victims of the drought in the zone.

Out of this, more than 12,400 quintals of wheat, more than 6,000 quintals of rice, 6,000 quintals of flour and more than 3,500 quintals of nutritious food, he said.

He said the support is the first round and that he will work to establish it in a sustainable manner.

He said a team to study the current situation in the zone, the number of victims and other related issues is being sent to the area to gather information.

It is known that Ethiopia is helping 70 percent of its citizens exposed to natural and man-made disasters on its own.
