Ethiopia’s current position is to talk only about the dam and the management of the dam – Ambassador Dina Mufti
Addis Ababa: April 15, 2021 (FBC) Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Dina Mufti said Ethiopia’s current position is to negotiate only on the dam and the management of the dam.
Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Dina Mufti made the weekly statement.
He recalled that last week’s talks between the three countries’ negotiators heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo ended in disagreement.
He said Ethiopia had gone to Kinshasa for the talks to ensure that “Africa’s problems can only be solved by Africans” through diplomacy.
“This will stem from the common belief that the river belongs to Africans,” he said, adding that Ethiopia would never accept pressure to move the issue out of the AU framework.
However, from the time she was chair of the African Union to the current chair of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, there has been no way for Egypt to try to divert the negotiations to its own countries and to pursue its own interests, Ambassador Dina said.
He stressed that Ethiopia would not only accept this view, but also that “other parties should play a role in the negotiation of the dam as much as Africa”.
He said the Sudanese military, in particular, is on a mission.
He also said that Ethiopia will take a closer look at the “closed-door discussion” request made by Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdock.
He said Ethiopia is calling on the international community and its allies to return to normal relations in response to Sudan’s land grab and property damage in connection with the border conflict.
He said the support has been strengthened due to the humanitarian assistance provided in Tigray State.
