Bulcha Demeksa was awarded a gold medal for his contribution to the economy
Addis Ababa: June 30, 2014 (FBC) The National Bank of Ethiopia and Awash International Bank SC presented a gift to Bulcha Demeksa at his residence in Gatafo during a joint ceremony.
The 91-year-old was awarded the prize for his long service to the country’s economy.
The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) presented them with gold coins, while Awash International Bank presented them with certificates of appreciation, a robe and a gold medal.
National Bank Governor Dr. Yinager Dessie, Awash Bank President Tsehai Shiferaw, Bulcha Demeksa’s wife Helen Gebre-Egziabher and other invited guests were present.
Bulcha Demeksa has been in office since 1959. He has served as Ethiopia’s Deputy Minister of Finance since the Revolution and has represented Ethiopia on the World Bank Board.
After the revolution, he served for many years at the United Nations Nigeria branch.
Following the change in the country, he resigned in 1984. He founded Awash International Bank and became a pioneer in the private banking industry.
Bulcha Demeksa, a graduate of Addis Ababa University with a degree in economics and law, has had six children in his 54 years of marriage.
