Kotebe University will start accepting students from the competition next year.

Kotebe University of Education announces that it will start accepting students from the 2015 academic year.

The former Kotebe Metropolitan University was renamed Kotebe University of Education months ago.

Dr. Berhane Meskel, President of the University; Kotebe spoke to ENA about the purpose of the University of Education and its future plans.

He cited the lack of a university in Ethiopia as a reason for the lack of quality education. To alleviate the problem, Kotebe said the University of Education is a reality.

He said Kotebe University of Education has taken great responsibility to treat the Ethiopian education sector, which is being challenged by various problems.

He noted that the main function of teacher universities is to produce teachers in all disciplines. However, he explained that the University of Education is higher and more comprehensive.

He said the university will focus on producing academic leaders, researchers, consultants and policy makers as the mainstay of teacher education.

Dr. Berhane Meskel also said that a roadmap showing the route and destination of Kotebe Education University is being prepared.

In addition to the existing university students, he said he is ready to accept and teach students assigned to the Ministry of Education this academic year.

However, he said, from the next academic year, the university will start teaching students by taking exams to help them achieve its goals.

Kotebe University of Education said it is cooperating with various universities to fulfill its mission.

In particular, he mentioned that there is a plan to open a "professional bank" to alleviate the shortage of manpower and include a list of academics to support the university in all fields.
