The Dire Dawa administration has announced that it will take action against contractors who are delaying development projects that are expected to boost social and economic activities.

The nine-month performance of road projects under construction by the Administration Roads Authority has been reviewed with stakeholders today.

Speaking on the sidelines of the review, Mayor Kedir Juhar said: If the contractors do not complete their work on time, on budget, and in accordance with the contract, the administration will take legal action.

He also said that contractors who delay action on development projects will be barred from bidding on future projects.

He urged contractors to complete projects and launch services in accordance with their contracts to meet the basic needs of the people.

On his part, Ibrahim Yusuf, Government Spokesperson of the Council of Governors, on his part, said irregularities in the process from project selection to contractor recruitment should be investigated and irreversible legal action should be taken.

Contractors are not acting on their terms; Dire Dawa Roads Authority General Manager, Bruk Workeneh, said further steps will be taken as they are not properly monitoring and supervising projects.

Many of the reasons given by the contractors are unacceptable; He said support for the acceleration of the projects will be strengthened.

The contractors who participated in the discussion, on their part, said that they will work day and night to solve the problems and deliver them in accordance with the contract.

He also called on the administration to address the issues related to border enforcement.

Asphalt, gravel, and modern bridges, which have been under construction in Dire Dawa for the past five years, are being constructed this year, but most of them have been delayed, he said.
