South Wollo Zone Agriculture Department Head, Ahmed Gallo, on his part said more than 43,000 hectares of basin development has been completed this year.

 

He said work is underway to create job opportunities for more than 285 youths in 46 model basins.

A delegation led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Omar Hussein, visited a cluster of mango farms and lowland fruit seedlings in South Wollo Zone, Kalu Woreda of Amhara State yesterday.

 

It is also stated that by cultivating mango cluster on 500 hectares of land, farmers can be introduced to fruit production.

 

5,189 farmers have benefited from the Mango Cluster in the woreda.

 

There are 6 fruit seedlings associations in the woreda, which supply lowland fruits to neighboring woredas and the Afar region.

 

Deputy Head of the Amhara Regional State Agriculture Bureau, Kalkidan Shiferaw, said that they are working to make the farmers fruit producers by adequately preparing the seedlings and organizing them in clusters.
