What are the causes and solutions to the inflation that is testing Ethiopians?

"There's rent, there's pencils, there's what the kids study with, there's lunch for the kids who study, there's transportation, there's kids' clothes and there's pay for the maid.

When you look at this, you say a lot of life is hurting us," he said.

Mr. Abdi Gabbisa lives in a rented house in Finland with his wife, two children and his maid.

They are employed in a government company and earn a monthly salary of Qarshii 5,000, he said.

However, they say they are struggling to support their family with Qarshii 8,000 combined with their salary and their wife's monthly salary.

"I wait for this 5,000 rupees a month. The expenses I spend and the money I earn are not comparable," he said.

"There is rent, there is dry cleaning, there is schooling, there is transportation, there is children's clothes and there is payment for the maid. When you look at this, a lot of life is hurting us," he said.

What solutions can the government take?

There are complaints that the measures taken by the Ethiopian government to address the country's inflation are not satisfactory.

There is a lack of action against traders who cause price increases by storing products and smugglers who cause price increases by going between shopkeepers and traders.

Dr Lata Seera, a lecturer in economics at Jimma University, said the price of a product goes up when the supply of the product in the market decreases and the demand increases.

As Ethiopia is moving towards prosperity it is expected all Ethiopian citizens to contribute to the overall growth of the country.
