 The Ethiopian Media Authority (EMA) has urged the House of Peoples' Representatives to take the necessary action against media outlets that broadcast hate speech.

The Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Democracy Affairs of the House of Peoples' Representatives today reviewed the 9 months performance report of the Ethiopian Media Authority.

Standing Committee Chairperson, Etsegenet, said the government has never built a media network that fits the country's overall situation and historical background.

He also called on the media to fulfill their social responsibility to promote a democratic culture of neutrality.

To provide equitable access to information to all sections of the society, and to ensure that dissemination of information is accountable; He also pointed out that the authority should work diligently.

The members of the Standing Committee, for their part, praised the Authority's progress in exposing misinformation and hate speech in Ethiopia.

According to the House of Representatives, the Authority is required to disseminate false information, disseminate up-to-date information, maintain balance, and carry out emotional and partisan approaches.

Director General of the Ethiopian Media Authority, Mohamed Idris, said the standing committee will address the issues raised by the committee.

He said a warning letter had been issued to foreign media outlets based in Addis Ababa for spreading false information.
