49 irrigation projects with a capacity to develop 17,000 hectares of land in the southern state are under construction

Chief of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People's Region (SNNPR), Ristu Yirdaw, today visited the construction site of the Megecha Irrigation Project in Gurage Zone.

 

At the same time, Ristu said the project was delayed due to lack of ownership and construction of construction materials.

 

He thanked the contractor for withstanding the pressures and for making the project a success.

 

He said the state government is working to develop 17,000 hectares of land in 49 irrigation projects.

 

He said the irrigation projects launched in the state will not only alleviate the food insecurity but also bring more foreign exchange to the country through export products.

 

He said the regional government is focusing on irrigation, safe drinking water and road projects to enhance the benefits of the community.

 

According to information received from the Southern Nations, Nationalities and People's Government Communication Affairs Bureau, the Megecha Irrigation Project visited today is expected to cultivate 1,320 hectares of land.
