Artist Tariku Birhanu determined to save his marriage

Participation in the national consultation will only succeed if all Ethiopians are able to support the process with enthusiasm and ownership.

Ethiopia has experienced golden opportunities for change over the centuries. Many torches have been lit to illuminate our politics one step further and illuminate our future. There is something similar about those changes: Frustration. They start with frustration, they end up frustrated, they end up frustrated. Often, we begin to see the change that we are about to begin with. Instead of cooperating to achieve our goals in the process of change, we tend to procrastinate in small matters, so that the first fruits of change will be lost in the middle of the road. It is too late for them to realize that they have failed, and we regret them as a nation after the opportunity has passed.

Just as we would say to the older generation, “If only he had done this and that,” then the previous generation would have condemned the previous generation. Unless we are determined to stay out of this vicious circle, our future will be different. The number of opportunities we neglect today will be a factor in our grandchildren criticizing us tomorrow. To prevent this from happening, we must take full advantage of the opportunities for change that we have today.

The process of national consultation, which will enable us to significantly address the political challenges of the past and lay the foundations for our future, can be seen as a golden opportunity in our hands today. If we forget that gold is a product of hard work and history, we can easily lose it. On the contrary, if we treat it like a pearl, it will be costly and a turning point in history. It creates an opportunity for our children to say, "Our country has reached this heights because our ancestors did this."

For the inclusive national consultation to be successful, the process must be credible. This will happen when we can all support, strengthen and strengthen the Consultative Commission, which oversees the consultation process. Staying on the sidelines in this regard is a shameful act in the eyes of history. Contributing to the consultation process by all parties contributing to the consultation process ensures that participation in one event does not exempt from historical responsibility.

The Consultative Commission, set up by the government to the lower echelons of government, will continue to provide all necessary support to ensure its efficiency. State governments must, with sincerity, ownership and historical responsibility, provide the necessary inputs for the work of the Commission and create a conducive environment for its work. I humbly ask that the competing parties not only participate in the discussion but also as the owner of the process do all that is necessary for the efficiency and success of the process.
