Legal and administrative action was taken against more than 18 thousand commercial establishments in the capital

 

Addis Ababa, September 28, 2022 In Addis Ababa, the commercial office of the city has announced that it has taken legal and administrative action against more than 18 thousand commercial establishments that caused the price increase and violated other business laws in the last three months.

 

According to the deputy head of the commercial office, Mrs. Shulti Getutu, various activities are being carried out in the city to make the business activities healthy.

 

He said that in the past three months, more than 95,000 commercial establishments were monitored and controlled; 18,818 of them were found to be violating the commercial law.

 

He said that the office has taken legal and administrative measures against the commercial establishments engaged in these illegal activities.

 

Out of which action was taken, 5 thousand 54 institutions were given written warnings and ÷ 4 thousand 82 institutions mentioned that they were sealed.

 

In addition, 422 business establishments have had their licenses revoked, and three organizations have had their business licenses suspended.

 

Apart from administrative action, they stated that legal action has been filed against 182 institutions.

 

ESA reports that they have raised that they have been allowed to enter the legal business line by giving simple warnings to other business establishments that have committed minor offences.

 

He said that among the laws they have passed are stockpiling of products and making the price increase, selling goods above the estimated price, trading outside the registered address, working outside the registered business sector and degrading the quality of products.

 

He also mentioned that more than 1 billion Birr has been allocated for the work of cooperatives to stabilize the price. He pointed out that by connecting consumer cooperatives directly with farmers, more produce was brought to Addis Ababa.

 

In addition to this, he stated that by establishing 97 Sunday markets in different areas of the city, efforts are being made to provide the society with affordable products.
