Minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Fitsum Assefa, told Fana Broadcasting Corporation that there is still high unemployment, uncontrolled inflation and high cost of living, high government spending and the macroeconomic crisis in Ethiopia as a whole.

They say the country's long history of instability has contributed to this.

"In the past, the source of the macroeconomic turmoil was the failure of the country to close its doors due to the inability to repay its debt," she said.

He said the project needs to be managed and cost-effective to prevent budget deficits.

He said the Ministry of Planning and Development has prepared a three-year plan based on the current 10-year development plan.

The plan, which will be implemented in the 2015 fiscal year, is one of the main pillars of ensuring sustainable economic growth.

According to Dr. Fitsum, the next budget of the government will be prepared to address the macroeconomic crisis.

He said the macroeconomic turmoil caused by the war would continue and that the real impact was expected in the coming years.

Following this, he said, the plan aims to repair the damage caused by the situation in north part. Pointing out that it is intended to be effective in consolidating the available grains and building more social institutions.

The economy suffered greatly during the situation in north. She said the government has set up a Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Office headed by the Ministry of Finance to compensate for the damage and it is believed that the office will be instrumental in bringing about visible change.

Dr. Fitsum said the plan to rehabilitate and rebuild the Tigray region is also in consideration.

He said agriculture, tourism, mining, manufacturing and the service sector were expected to be successful, but plans were afoot to make up for it in three years.
