Gimbi, April 12 (WIC) - The zonal forest cover has increased from 20 percent to 25 percent in the past three years under the green fingerprint program in Kelem Welega Zone, Zonal Agriculture and Natural Resources Office said.

He also said that the green fingerprint program will be strengthened with the participation of the community next summer.

The office's representative, Wakgari Workeneh, told ENA that the Kelem Welega zone was known for its extensive forest cover.

However, he said, due to the lack of public awareness of the benefits of forest resources, deforestation has been declining in recent years due to man-made damage.

According to the representative, the zonal forest cover is being rehabilitated due to the community's green fingerprint programs in the zone over the past years.

He said the area covered by 212,000 hectares of forest in the zone three years ago has now grown to 250,000 hectares.
