Standing Committee on Public Expenditure Management and Control urged the Ethiopian Institute of Water Technology to rectify its recurring audit findings.

The Standing Committee on Public Expenditure Management and Control of the House of Peoples' Representatives has reviewed the Institute's Auditor General's Legal Audit Report for the 2012 fiscal year with the relevant bodies.

He asked the officials of the institution to explain the corrections and corrective measures taken based on the shortcomings of the audit findings.

Required corrective action on audit deficiencies in expenditure, incorrect accounting, expenditures, asset management, vehicle handling and utilization.

According to the audit report, more than 963,000 birr has not been spent on auditing work.

The Standing Committee on Reconciliation, citing the audit findings, said that more than 90,000 birr has been spent on domestic training, living allowances, transportation and research equipment.

According to the audit report, the institute has a budget of over 8.4 million birr for the regular and capital budgets of 2012/13.

Director General of the Ethiopian Institute of Water Technology Dr. Tamene Hailu He explained the questions raised and the corrective action taken and taken on the audit findings.

According to the Deputy Auditor General of the Federal Auditor; He said the audit findings of the institute during the 2012 fiscal year will continue in the 2013 fiscal year as well.

State Minister of Finance, Dr. Eyuub Tekalign, said the institute should continue its efforts to improve its audit findings as part of its ongoing internal audit.

He said the audit findings should be planned for the next 100 days and he should focus on correcting recurring audit findings.

The chairperson directed the institute to submit the disposal plan to the Standing Committee by April 20, 2014.

He said the institution will take suggestions from members of the Standing Committee and other stakeholders as input and will work to improve the audit findings in the future.
