Addis Ababa city administration signed a contract with Japan's Featurebed International Limited Company for the purchase of road maintenance machinery worth 360 million birr.

The agreement for the purchase of road maintenance machinery facilitated through the financial assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency was signed online by the Director General of Ababa Roads Authority, Eng.

Mayor Adanech Abebe, who spoke at the signing ceremony, praised the support of Ethiopia and Japan in education and technology, which has been going on for more than 90 years.

He said that even today, their continuous support has supported us in the purchase of equipment that is useful for the maintenance of the important road in the transport sector in our city.

He said that support will help us to provide better road service in Ababa.

Mayor Adanech Abebe also expressed his belief that the supplier will deliver on time.

Japan's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Takaki Oto, said that road is a crucial infrastructure to connect services to people.

This agreement will increase the efficiency of the Addis Ababa City Roads Authority, which is being carried out independently, by improving the capacity of road resource maintenance, Engineer Moges Tubu said.

Engineer Moges said that the road maintenance machinery purchase agreement will increase the road maintenance capacity of the authority by 25% per year.

According to the purchase agreement, the Addis Ababa Roads Authority will purchase 81 machines from the Japanese government.

The auction process for the purchase of winnowers will be divided into three lots, and it is said that the purchase of 81 machines listed in Lot 1 and 2 will be done according to this agreement.

Engineer Moges said that if the city has a growing demand for road infrastructure, it is expected that the road coverage will be expanded in the future.

Along with the development of the road infrastructure, the demand for regular and continuous road maintenance in the city will increase at the same time, he said.

Ethiopia's cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency started with the establishment of Addis Ababa Roads as an institution in 1996 by providing various machinery and vehicle support.

Through the collaboration, the road maintenance capacity building project has been implemented from 2015 to 2018, and it has been stated that it has greatly contributed to the effective implementation of road maintenance.
