Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has officially launched the 2015 nationwide summer irrigation wheat development in Somali region.

Senior government officials, including state governors, participated in the program.

Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebe said that the wheat development will play a significant role in supporting the government's efforts to improve the cost of living, especially in the cities.

He said that this will open a new chapter by making Ethiopia go beyond itself and survive for others.

In this way, it was mentioned that Ethiopia was able to produce 25 million quintals of wheat in summer 2014, excluding the harvest season. It has been suggested that this year, 1.3 million hectares of land will be irrigated and 52 million quintals will be harvested.

According to the regional administrations that were found in the program; Ethiopia has recorded high production in wheat cultivation in a short period of time.

He said that if it is possible to work with cooperation and determination in all fields, Ethiopia will change in a short time.

Oromia Region Governor Shimeles Abdisa said that the success recorded in wheat cultivation has resulted in a large amount of foreign currency being spent on buying wheat.

The idea that Ethiopia would stop importing wheat from abroad seemed like a dream. But he said that it was possible to make this a reality in a short period of time.

Next, he mentioned that Ethiopia will start supplying wheat to other countries beyond itself. He explained that current conditions will confirm this.

At the same time, Dr. Yelkal Kefale, Head of Amhara Region, explained that the success recorded in wheat production clearly indicates that Ethiopia can get out of poverty by increasing its productivity in a short period of time.

The head of the Afar region, Mr. Awl Arba, said that the cultivation of wheat, especially in regions such as Afar and Somalia, which are frequently affected by drought, is being widely cultivated, and it is a blessing for the citizens.

Mentioning that the wheat produced in the Somali region is a model for Lech regions as well.

The Head of the Southern Nationalities and People's Region, Mr. Rustu Yerdau, added that the wheat practice is a way to protect the country's sovereignty and independence in addition to food self-sufficiency.

In order to secure Ethiopia's existence, it is necessary to repeat the victory achieved in the war in the economy, and the current wheat development is a good example in this regard.
