Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau announced that it will provide polio vaccine in the city. The bureau made the announcement during discussions with the sub-city health offices and stakeholders regarding the immunization.

According to Dr. Mulugeta, Deputy Head of the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau, the bureau is making various preparations to administer the vaccine.

Dr. Mulugeta said the project will focus on the supply of inputs for the vaccine and stressed the need for coordination.

Daniel Damtew, Director of the Public Health Research and Risk Monitoring Directorate of the Bureau, on his part said that community mobilization activities will be carried out to ensure the successful delivery of polio vaccine.

He recalled that the first round of vaccination was given in the 2014 Ethiopian budget year. He also said that the date of the vaccination will be announced in the future.

Polio vaccine is given to children 5 years of age and younger.
