It will be remembered that Bahir Dar University gave an honorary doctorate to the journalist Ayman Buru at the graduation ceremony held on July 16/2015.

 

On that day, Journalist Amaya Buru was not able to attend the inauguration day due to overlapping work, so today, November 16/2016, he was received in person at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa.

Journalist Amaya Bru:-

• Founder and owner of Sheger, the first private FM radio station in Ethiopia;

• Founder and owner of the first female radio broadcasting company;

• By her choice of guests; In addition to the programs (Saturday Game and Sheger Cafe) that she produces and presents directly to Zawa with her style of questioning supported by research, she has left her mark on various Sheger radio programs as well as other radio and television programs and has generally become a role model for journalists engaged in this field; Perhaps one of her most famous and unparalleled contributions; A number of historians and government officials who cannot be easily replaced; Artists; Biographies of journalists and other professionals; Work, thinking and their philosophy of life, which is an example for others, is prepared in their own words and preserved for history. In this way, it can be said that she has contributed to Ethiopians an unparalleled and ever-growing historical audio record.

Journalist Amaya was born in Addis Ababa city in 1950 and grew up in Hirna city in West Harare until she was about nine years old. When Hirna was born, her neighbors were Oromo, Harare, Somali, Yemeni, so she had an upbringing that was developed with different cultural values ​​and ties to each other. This, coupled with her penchant for literature, formed the basis of who she is today.

 

• When journalist Amaya was nine years old, her parents sent her to St. Mary's Catholic Girls' Boarding School in Addis Ababa.

• In 1967, when she was a secondary school student, she was sent to Tigray in the development campaign and served for six months.

• In 1970, she entered Addis Ababa University and received her bachelor's degree in Linguistics.

• Her first exposure to radio work was by chance when she was a final year student, leading to her eight-year long association with the then popular Sunday programme. However, her first permanent assignment was as a sports reporter for the Merha Sports newspaper under the Ministry of Culture.

• Subsequently, she continued to participate in Ethiopian Radio's Sunday program and served in the International Service Department of the Ministry of Culture.

• She then served as Editor-in-Chief of National Bank's British magazine, writing and editing financial news and short stories.

• She joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984 and worked as a Press and Communication Officer for four years.

After working as a private consultant and in public relations and advertising, in 1987, she got the opportunity to host a Saturday afternoon game show with her husband, artist Abebe Balcha, and her long-time friend, artist Teferi Alemu, using the air time of FM 97.1 radio station of Ethiopian Radio and Television Company. She has been performing.
