The first to repatriate Ethiopians in distress in Saudi Arabia arrived home today

 

 The repatriation of citizens in distress in Saudi Arabia has begun.

 

The government plans to repatriate more than 100,000 people in the next seven to 11 months.

 

The first round of returnees, part of this plan, began arriving in Addis Ababa today.

 

Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, the returnees were welcomed by Minister of Women and Social Affairs Dr. Ergoge Tesfaye, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Birtukan Ayano and other senior government officials.

 

A total of 498 children, 341 women and 341 women, arrived in Riyadh this morning on their first flight from Saudi Arabia.

 

A temporary accommodation has also been set up for returnees from Saudi Arabia.

 

There are more than 750,000 Ethiopians living in Saudi Arabia, and more than 450,000 are believed to be living there illegally.
