The first Ethiopian woman to get a third degree in computer science

**************************

Redet Abebe, a computer science researcher in algorithms and artificial intelligence, became the first black woman to receive a doctorate in computer science from New York's Cornell University.

Redet holds a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.

She is currently an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley, and is a member of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence.

She is also a founding member and researcher of the 'Black in AI' research group, which has 2,000 members and was established in 2017.

In addition, it has established an association that can use algorithmic tools to bring about social change by improving the lives of disadvantaged sections of society, and 100 institutions in 20 countries are members of the association, according to the information obtained from the American Embassy website in Ethiopia.

When Rediet Abebe arrived to study in the United States from Ethiopia, she was surprised to learn of educational inequalities of black and low-income students in the shadow of some of the world's most prestigious universities.
