The technical support for Ethiopia's anti-corruption activities will continue to be strengthened - UN

The United Nations Office for the Prevention of Dangerous Crimes stated that the technical assistance to strengthen Ethiopia's anti-corruption activities will continue.

The United Nations Office for the Prevention of Violent Crimes in collaboration with the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is holding a discussion in Addis Ababa focusing on the role of the private sector in preventing corruption.

According to Federal Police Commission Deputy Commissioner General Zeleman Meremante, the government is carrying out various activities to fight corruption and achieve good governance.

ESA reported that in the last four years, the government has realized the severity of corruption and is holding individuals and organizations involved in corruption accountable by law.

He pointed out that at the present time, he is continuing with a new strategy and determination to establish accountability in a way that involves the people.

He said that the Federal Police Criminal Investigation Bureau will continue to strengthen its work to prevent the crime by bringing organizations and individuals involved in corruption to justice.

He pointed out that private sector bodies should do their part by checking the internal procedures of government institutions and condemning illegal activities.

On the other hand, Hana Elizabeth, the head of the United Nations Office for the Prevention of Serious Crime in Ethiopia, said that the organization will continue to strengthen technical and capacity building support in the activities it carries out to bring economic growth by preventing corruption in Ethiopia.

Scholars, civil society organizations, private sector actors and government officials attended the discussion focusing on the private sector.
